Harry Smith

Research Associate

Harry Smith is a social and economic historian of modern Britain. Before joining the Addressing Health team he was a Research Associate at the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure working on the history of Entrepreneurship. This project produced a new database of all identifiable business proprietors in Britain during the period 1851-1911 and is available at www.bbce.uk. He has also worked on the history of the professions and on urban Britain, particularly the history of Birmingham. He is one of the co-authors of The Age of Entrepreneurship: Business Proprietors, Self-Employment and Corporations Since 1851 (Routledge, 2019).
